What is an Inbody Scan?

For those unfamiliar with it, the InBody device is a non-invasive tool that utilizes Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to measure body composition, providing a detailed breakdown of muscle mass, body fat percentage, water distribution, and other key metrics. It works by sending safe, low-level electrical currents through your body via an electrode system, which contacts your hands and feet to measure impedance in different body segments, such as your arms, legs, and torso. This direct segmental measurement, combined with multiple frequencies, ensures precise analysis of intracellular and extracellular water, fat mass, and lean body mass. The scan takes less than a minute but offers results that are highly correlated (up to 98%) with gold-standard methods, such as DEXA scans. We can use this data to track your fitness progress, identify potential health risks, and tailor your approach to diet and exercise.

Since I was a girl, I’ve struggled with my weight. I started my health and fitness journey at the age of 19, losing 80 pounds with hard work and dedication. The hard work came from determination. I defined weight loss by constantly focusing on calories and fat and, at times, depriving myself of a healthy diet. When it came to exercise, I’d beat myself up with constant cardio and working out for months without a day off. Running became a priority for both mental and physical reasons.

I did my first Inbody scan with Cor in 2024 and then again in 2025. Upon reviewing my numbers, I realized it was necessary to make changes to become stronger and healthier, especially as I turned 49 and approached menopause. I started brisk walking instead of running every day. (I still run, but not 10 miles every day like I used to). And I decided to add more strength training.

It’s made a huge impact on my life; I’ve gained muscle, lost fat, and felt stronger at 49 than I did at 30. I wasn’t eating enough protein and healthy fats, and on a personal level, I was my own biggest critic instead of being my own biggest cheerleader.

I’ve adopted a new approach to eating and thinking. I now eat protein first, and I no longer eat fruit all day, which helps me avoid feeling bloated. It’s been such an eye-opener. I surround myself with people who share the same struggles and goals. We motivate each other, share ideas and suggestions, and support one another in our pursuit of health and fitness.
