Give & Get

The holiday season has once again snuck up on us, with its odd mixture of joy, stress, indulgence, and gifting punctuated with the seemingly eternal promise of a fresh start. At its core, the holidays are about giving and getting, or, as the Beatles once poetically put it, “…in the end, the love you make is equal to the love you take.” Translation: the more you give, the more you get. Give and ye shall receive. This idea seems especially appropriate to fitness, where effort in equals results out, and to Fitness Incentive itself. So many people have put their hearts and souls into making FI what it is. Staff and members alike are constantly giving of themselves – their time, their effort, their patience, their love, and their understanding. The rewards are many, and they are far more than fitness and health, extending to friendships, community, and an overall sense of fulfillment and well-being. It’s something special that we all share at FI, and we are and should be hugely grateful for it because it is unique, rare, and well-earned.

On The Subject of Giving and Getting…

Our holiday promotion this year is all about Giving and Getting. In this case, for every $100 Gift Card you purchase (GIVE), you will receive a $20 Bonus Card! (GET). Get it? The bonus card has a few rules. You can use it between January 1st and March 31st, after which it will expire. It can only be used in the gym, not the spa, and has no cash surrender value. The Give and Get offer runs from December 1st through December 25th. There’s no limit on the number of Gift Cards you can purchase. There’s no easier way to give – and get – the gift that always fits! (Yes, I snuck that in again this year!)

Repeat After Me: “It Never Gets Old at Fitness Incentive!”

Matrix Performance Plus Treadmill

You may have already noticed that we recently upgraded our Treadmills selection to include two brand-new Matrix Performance Plus Treadmills. These exceptional treadmills set a new standard with a shock-absorbing slatted belt (similar to the ones found on Woodway treads) and a powerful drive system that makes even the most intense runs feel comfortable, solid, and smooth. In addition, the WiFi-enabled Touch XL Console features an app-based interface that mirrors your smartphone, making it easy to connect to the content that keeps you moving. Not to mention wireless charging for your device and connection to your Apple Watch, along with “Virtual Active” that transports your run to 60 exotic locations, and the exclusive “Sprint 8” sprint-intensity program that stimulates natural human growth hormones to burn more fat and build lean muscle in short 20-minute workouts. This is the best-in-class treadmill you’ve been waiting for. Please give them a spin on the rear cardio deck.

Recover from Summer Recap…

And the Winners are:

The annual Fall Fitness challenge had a new look and feel this Autumn (see article) and a new focus: getting clean and lean by Halloween! This challenge was the first to include a detox program administered by Well Choices Nutritionist Liz Keller. The training model was also modified, with an emphasis on small groups and a more flexible schedule. But the most significant change was in the scoring, where the awards went to individuals, not teams or partners. The results were impressive across the board (see the full results on our website), and the winners were especially outstanding:

First Place: Kathryn Oak – Trained by Liz Keller 41.97 points

Second Place: Kasandra Gerlak – Trained Theresa Christensen 34.35 points

Third Place: Karen Calder – Trained by Jackie Niciforo 33.97 points

Other Notable Achievements

Most Lean Mass Gained (5.5): Kasandra Gerlak – Trained by Theresa Christensen

Most Body Fat Lost: Colleen Sita (14.7) – Trained by Jackie Niciforo

Congratulations to everyone who put in the effort and stayed the course! Stay tuned for the 2024 Fit for Summer challenge, coming this spring.

Welcome our Newest Trainers:

Angela Corso

Angela Corso

Angela comes to FI with a background in investment banking coupled with over 25 years of gym experience. Angela decided to turn her passion for health and fitness into a career as a NASM-certified personal training and nutrition coach. After having survived several bouts with breast cancer, she took an integrative approach to treatment that her oncologist told her fitness was instrumental in preventing the advancement of the disease. This arduous journey led her to her calling, which is to inspire people to advocate for themselves. Her motto is profound and true: “You either invest in your health now while you can, or you will be investing in your health as a potential burden down the line.” Please stop by the desk to schedule an appointment with Angela and welcome her to the FI community.

Caroline Hoyler

Caroline is a certified pre and postnatal fitness specialist and registered yoga teacher (RYT 200) in vinyasa, hot yoga, and stand-up paddle yoga. Her fitness background started as a lifeguard on Fire Island for ten years. In her early 20s, she got into yoga and low-impact exercise, which helped her navigate the grief over the loss of her dad. She believes fitness is more than aesthetics – it’s about health, longevity, mental clarity, and being there for life’s greatest moments. She is a mom to 3 little boys and loves helping women stay active through their pregnancies, postpartum, and parenthood.
