On The Journey to Fitness

I love seeing and reading about body transformations, before and after photos. But how about hearing some of the experiences of clients as they’re currently on their fitness journey. I asked a few clients who started training with me a few months back to share their experiences so far. Hopefully, they will inspire you to reach out and open yourself to personal training, whatever your current level of fitness activity. I am a results-driven trainer. I am passionate about teaching people to take control of their health through a weight training regimen and nutritional program that absolutely works. Here are some examples…

My Summit of Health
By Gerald J. Hemendinger

Gerald Hemendinger

“When I get into shape I’m going to fit into my clothes better, have more confidence and be able to reach my goal of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.”
Getting in shape always seemed to be an unobtainable wish, just as much as climbing over 19,000 feet to the summit of a mountain. If I had to buy a larger size of clothes or had a special event, I would make an attempt at dieting and physical activity. These quick fixes gave me short term results that seemed to dissolve the moment I let my guard down.
In May 2016, I experienced a major professional disappointment. It was this life event that triggered my determination to stop living a holding pattern of dieting and body dissatisfaction. Instead of wishing for health, I set a goal towards improving my dietary and physical activity patterns. I knew that to increase my success, I had to approach these lifestyle changes with a different strategy. I knew that I needed a support system and that I needed to be held accountable. That support and accountability came from my personal trainer, TJ Lynch.
I approached my first session with great trepidation. The gym environment was bustling with people already fully engaged in lifestyle behaviors that I had wanted but did not have the confidence to pursue. It was daunting, to say the least. However, little did I know it would become the best decision that I had made in my life.
To improve my dietary patterns, I began interviewing my food choices, asking questions such as, which foods would help me through a training session? When my progress was slow, and the workout seemed insurmountable, TJ’s encouragement and guidance helped me to continue on my journey of achieving a healthier body by focusing on technique and form for success.
Learning to Fuel my body with the right nutritional foods at the proper time, provided me with the needed energy for my workout. I have eliminated dieting from my vocabulary. I am actually eating more, which initially was a difficult concept to embrace. However, I realized it was and is a necessity for my body.
Improving my physical activity and dietary patterns didn’t happen overnight. It was a slow and at times a painful process. At this point, I relied more and more on TJ’s guidance and support. In the beginning, I would feel nervous before a workout, but with time I was able to overcome my anxiety by focusing on short term goals. Now, a few months after my first training session, I am feeling confident in my ability to continue and maintain this healthy lifestyle. This confidence comes from my dedication to getting healthier and the support system of my personal trainer, TJ Lynch.
In the fall of 2017, I will be pursuing a life goal of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. When I think about the actual climb, I have the same feelings of trepidation that I had going into my first training session. Now, as a result of my experience with TJ, I will be able to use those challenges to reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. I have learned no matter how difficult life’s challenges are, I have the ability to pursue my goals and reach my summit.

Here we Go Mondays !!
By Christine King

I’m looking forward to Monday! That’s something I never thought I would hear myself say or think, along with ‘training is so much fun’ and ‘I love going to the gym.’ But a breakup and another birthday made me finally decide to make an investment in myself; to invest in my health, my future, and, of course, in my appearance. I finally decided to work with a personal trainer, and after several recommendations, I decided to work with TJ Lynch, something I had been thinking of doing for a long time but was too nervous to pull the trigger. Looking back, I only regret not doing it sooner because it was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time.
Like a lot of women, I was intimidated by weight training. I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to keep up, that my trainer would judge me, and I’d feel too self-conscious. All needless worries. TJ is my biggest supporter, and I leave every session feeling better than when I walked into the gym. When I don’t think I can do one more rep, he somehow manages to get me to work through and perform several more quality reps. I’ve never once said, “I can’t,” and that’s because I have learned to trust TJ. He knows my limits and capabilities and has the knowledge and experience to guide me every step of the way.
Since I started working with TJ three months ago, I have lost nearly 40 pounds. Seeing myself get stronger both mentally and physically each week has been an incredible experience. The way I feel and think about fitness and nutrition has completely changed. I love the challenge of training and look forward to the results I will make each week under TJ’s guidance. Training has become something I really enjoy. Mondays are a training day, and now I look forward to them.
