Have you ever walked into the gym, looked at all the equipment, and thought to yourself, ‘where do I start?’ For many gym members, creating their own workout can be intimidating at times, and that’s why our classes are the perfect solution! Working out in a group setting not only can give you the perfect workout but can actually benefit you in more ways than you think!

MOTIVATION

This is on the top of the list, for sure! The teachers here at FI are awesome at motivating and keeping the class engaged. You may have days where you don’t have a ton of energy or even days where it’s hard to get to the gym, so having someone to coach you through is just what you need! It’s also great to be surrounded by other members who are working hard and pushing themselves to their limits. The enthusiasm and energy of the class will help you achieve an effective workout!

FORM

Throughout the class, instructors introduce different exercises for you to complete, while demonstrating and explaining proper form. This way, you won’t wonder if you’re doing anything wrong and will be guided through the class to make sure you’re keeping proper alignment during every repetition. This will prevent any injuries from occurring and result in each move being effective.

DECREASE STRESS

Believe it or not, this is a big one! Studies have shown that exercising, especially in groups, has proven to decrease stress levels. During your workout, your body releases a chemical called endorphins – our “feel good” neurotransmitters. That’s why after a workout, you feel like you’re on top of the world! This chemical helps with our brain health, energy, and optimism. Focusing on one task, such as your workout, can provide a feeling of calmness and euphoria, which in turn helps reduce stress!

CHALLENGE

Some members need extra motivation or encouragement to challenge themselves. Taking a class can push you to increase your weights and repetitions past what you think you’re capable of! Have you ever been in a class where the instructor gave you a number of repetitions, but then kept adding more? I’m sure many of you have experienced that. I am even guilty of being that instructor! It’s in these moments where you’ve been challenged past your limits, where you’ll really see growth and change.

COMMUNITY

It’s so great to be a part of a gym that’s truly a community. You’re able to come to a place and work towards your goals with people who support you. Having that kind of environment in the class setting is just another way to increase your motivation, energy, and overall excitement for your workout. Plus, you may start to see familiar faces week to week and form friendships.

These are only a handful of the many benefits of working out in a group setting. I can assure you that your physical body is not the only thing being affected, but your entire quality of life! Now, when you complete your workout, you will leave sweaty, happy, and accomplished all at the same time! I think that’s a win right there!
