So why personal train? Simply put, so you can live your life to the fullest! The reasons may change as you age, but they never go away. When you’re 15 you’re trying out for a sports team; at 25 you find you need to quickly maneuver 20 city blocks to get to your job by 9 am. When you’re a 30-something, and you want to be able to keep up with your kids, and their relentless activities and schedules. Blink and you’re in your 40’s or 50’s, and you find yourself concerned about your cardiovascular health, or your health in general, especially with so many people depending on you. Then your 60’s roll around and you want to keep up with your grandchildren, or you’re in your 70’s (and beyond), and you may simply want to age gracefully and live independently. Whatever your age, situation or goals, personal training is for you! That’s why it’s called “personal” training. Because it’s about you, leading the life you want the way you want to live it. That’s the primary motivation and the ultimate result of personal training. Regardless of age, personal training helps provide you with the strength, endurance, stability, and the mobility you need to enjoy your life for the rest of your life. You’ll not only feel great; you’ll look fabulous.

Training success is achieved when you incorporate fitness into your lifestyle permanently throughout your life. Many of our members have been with us for 5, 10, 20 and 30-plus years and have successfully integrated fitness into their lives for the long haul. If you’re at the beginning of your fitness journey, you probably want to know their secret. How do they do it?

Have you ever noticed some of the groups of members training together in the gym? They’re working out, laughing, talking, pushing each other all while they are working towards their fitness goals. Let’s take a closer look at one of these groups, the self-dubbed “Coral group.” They are a group of members who have been working with FI Trainer, Marianela Virella-Mielke. This group has history! Pam Vlasek, Jodi Dee, AnnMarie Pollard, started training in 2009 and they’re still going strong! They started off training individually until Marianela prompted them to get involved with group training and eventually the Fantastic Four Contest.

Now they are a tight-knit group who persevere and maintain their training schedule despite the obstacles that life throws in their path. It doesn’t matter if work presents some problems or home and family issues arise….they still meet. This group is committed to fitness and each other, and they use their group workout as a means to work through life’s challenges! As Marianela states, “fitness happens in spite of the obstacles that arise in everyday life.” They are varying ages with different abilities and skill sets, but they come together to form a supportive, competitive and encouraging group. Trainers and their groups become friends, mentors, support systems, and teachers all in one.

Group training is dynamic and fairly complex. As you will see in the video below, trainer, Marianela prepares a regimen of exercises and machines that the group will follow, individually rotating positions throughout the process. She is always prepared with a plan A and a plan B if her workout plan needs to be altered. Marianela brings a creative, disciplined, time efficient, and detailed approach to her training. She offers modifications or regulates speed depending on ability. In addition to daydreaming up new challenges and exercises, Marianela is continually participating in seminars, workshops, classes, and continuing education and then integrates all that she learns into her groups. She has multiple certifications from National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Post Tensioning Institute (PTI), Kettlebells, TRX, Zumba, Insanity, Plyoga, and ViPR.
